Armou, Paphos – The property is a stone house for sale in Armou has been refurbished and consists of two wings. On the left there is the living and dining room, kitchen, master bedroom and shower room. On the right are two bedrooms with a bathroom. One bedroom is presently used as a study.
‘Kήπος της Εδέμ’ translates from Greek to ‘Garden of Eden’; a secret paradise in Armou village. Armou is a traditional, friendly village with two taverns, a coffee shop and Co-Operative bank. It is ten minutes to Paphos town, 15 minutes from the sea and 20 minutes from Paphos airport.
The property is entered through a double iron gate into a courtyard offering stunning views over Paphos and the sea. The courtyard and garden is a large, but easy to maintain, area. There is an outside kitchen with a fridge and gas cooker and two outbuildings, currently used as shed and for log storage. The log store was originally a ‘smoke-house’ to prepare the traditional Cypriot ‘lounza’.
Other original features in the courtyard include beam work above the doors; recesses (niches) in the thick walls for cool storage of water jugs in the past, and a fully-functioning oven where villagers would have brought their bread to bake.
The outsides of the houses have recently been repainted and the white-washed walls of the garden are complemented by bougainvillea and roses. Throughout the seasons, owners enjoy the fruit from the apricot, Damascus plum, olive and orange trees in addition to the two grape vines (one producing seedless grapes; the other black grapes) which provide welcome natural shade during the summer months.
The main house has a sitting and kitchen area with an open fireplace. There is a built-in cushioned stone seating area forming a ‘snug’ area around the fireplace and space for a large dining table with room for six to eight people. Double French doors lead out into the yard. The original beams and stone shelves are on display.
Two steps and a solid wooden door lead through to the large, beamed lounge which has double doors giving access to the courtyard and another stone seating area arranged around a newly installed Charnwood log burning stove which keeps the whole house cosy in winter. Contrary to popular belief, winters can be very cold here in Cyprus!
The lounge follows through to a double bedroom, via a solid wooden door. The bedroom, also, has double doors leading out to the courtyard and has an en suite dressing room and an original recess, used as a cupboard. The bedroom has air conditioning. The ensuite consists of a shower, basin and WC and a built-in wardrobe made from reclaimed wood. An immersion switch heats water in the winter months but, with the recently installed new solar panels, this has proved to be unnecessary.
Outside, across the garden from the main house, is a private guesthouse with a working fireplace. In this second house, there are two spacious bedrooms with an adjoining bathroom, providing further scope to convert to an independent house.
The bathroom consists of a WC, basin and bath with a shower. Both rooms have air conditioning.
The two houses form an “L” shape facing out onto the courtyard. All floors have Italian terracotta tiles and the ceilings have wooden beams. All windows, door frames and shutters are wood and the interiors offer a natural, traditional Cypriot ambience.
